Window Bird Feeders

Birds are wonderful to watch and the desire to observe the antics of the local bird populations, besides the desire to provide some sustenance to our feathered friends, has spurred the interest in purchasing bird feeders. Bird feeders are available in many designs, and they all have their benefits, but window bird feeders are able to lure feeding birds closer to human eyes than other types of feeders and allow you to observe birds without disturbing them.

Some models use suction cups to attach bird feeders to a window; the suction cups are made with specially formulated material that will allow maximum possible adhesion to any sort of window, without the need for any fancy tools or equipment. Many of these feeders are made of high quality UV stabilized clear polycarbonate, which is a very durable material that won’t turn yellow or crack over time. An overhanging sloped cover that prevents precipitation from entering the feeding dish is also usually included, as are drainage holes in the bottom of the feeding dish that help keep the food dry and thus fresh. Many window bird feeder models also have dishes with curved rims, to give birds a place to perch while feeding.
Suction cup window bird feeders also include window hummingbird feeder models. These come with perches to give the hummingbirds a place to rest while they feed, and feeding ports are red because this is the color to which hummingbirds are most attracted. Many of these models come with bee and aunt guards. Window tube bird feeder and some Galee window bird feeder models are also included in this category. Audobon window bird feeder models, furthermore, can actually be regular bird feeders suspended by hangers with suction cups.

There are also window birdfeeder models with tension rods, which can be installed from inside your house. Your windowsill must be at least 1.5 to 2 inches deep to be suitable for this type of feeder; any window up to 36 inches will do. Your window must be kept open to use this feeder. There are also window sill bird feeder models, which are mounted directly on a windowsill or in a window; bird feeder models like this are extremely easy to maintain.

Other types of feeders allow your window to be completely closed. This type of feeder comes with a central locking lid that allows easy access for filling and even cleaning the feeder. Many of these feeders are mirrored window birdfeeder models, which contain a one-way mirror made of plastic film. This mirror allows you to enjoy an up-close-and-personal view of feeding birds, while the birds don’t see you; they instead see a reflection of the outdoors and so remain calm and enjoy a relatively long stay at the feeder. You can even fill mirrored window birdfeeder models from inside the house without disturbing any critters in your yard.
